The Lord’s Supper (Communion)

Read I Corinthians 11:23-34
It causes us to remember our Lord’s death and resurrection and to look for His glorious return in the future.
Are you worthy to sit with Jesus and have supper with him?
The Passover was the most sacred feast of the Jewish religious year. It commemorated the final plague on Egypt when the firstborn of the Egyptians died and the Israelites were spared because of the blood of a lamb that was sprinkled on their doorposts. The lamb was then roasted and eaten with unleavened bread. God’s command was that throughout the generations to come the feast would be celebrated. The story is recorded in Exodus 12.
If one partakes of the Communion and yet still doing sin it is like the one holding the bag of 30 pieces of silver.
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
Matthew 26: 14-15Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver
Jesus said unto the disciples that one of you shall betray me.
Matthew 26:25 25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
in Verse 23. Jesus in the same day was betrayed by some of the disciples
Who were they? Judas & Peter
In Verse 24. Before they eat the bread and drank the cup they prayed over it first. Very important point in this verse is, this do in remembrance of me
in Verse 25. Also, in the same matter he also took the cup and said this is my blood of the new testament to drink this to remember me.
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. I John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Propitiation: atonement, especially that of Jesus Christ.
Christ's Sacrifice Once for All (The old law with the yearly sacrifices could not make one perfect)
Hebrews 10:1- 1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
**Jesus was a onetime offering for sin
Hebrews 10:9-10  9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Jesus the onetime offering, not like the old law, that was done yearly visiting the priest yearly to offer for their sins, would never remove their sins, but the offering of the body of Christ it would remove their sins and the Lord Jesus would remember them no more.

Romans 10:16-18 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
The bible tells us that you will have a new mind supporting the strength of Jesus Christ the perfect offering for sin, and keeping us in the will of God.
Ephesians 4:23,24 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
In Verse 27: If you partake of the Lord’s communion dishonestly, knowing that you are weak and still continue to sin, after the matter of taking the communion do not take the communion.
I Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Reprobates: to condemn strongly as unworthy, unacceptable, or evil
2: to foreordain to damnation
3: to refuse to accept reject
In Verse 29 If anyone takes of the communion unworthily he or she will receive damnation to themselves, not discerning the Lord’s body.
Not discerning will have an effect of learning to stay faithful and continue the path of righteousness, in turn; you will become having a reprobate mind.
In Verse 30 “Many sleep” Means that some of the people had died. The Lord’s Supper is not to be taken lightly; this new covenant cost Jesus his life. It is not a meaningless ritual, but a sacrament given by Christ to help strengthen our faith.

In Verse 31 If you would examine your Christian faith and determine rather we are living up to the approved faith, not of ourselves, but in the Lord eyes, Because we would discern our life by spiritual discernment that was giving to us by Jesus Christ.
In Verse 32 If we ignore the warning’s of our careless and disobedient to the word of God, then the Lord Jesus Christ will reprimand you to correct your wrong path that is leading you away from the truth.
Jesus Christ corrects the one’s he loves.
Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Spare the rod you spoil the child (We are the Children of God)
Proverbs 13:24He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
