Hebrews
11:1
“Now
faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Matthew
14:22-33
“And
straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and go before
him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had
sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when
the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of
the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch
of the night of Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the
disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a
spirit; and they cried out in fear. But straightway Jesus spoke unto them,
saying Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and
said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me to come to thee on the water. And he said,
come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water to
go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind Boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning
to sink, he cried, saying Lord save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth
his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore
didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then
they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, of a truth thou
art the son of God.”
This
is depicted with any ordeal in our lives. The sea for us could be an example of
trials, issues, and the life that we live, that is troubling us. Jesus speaks
to you, reaching for you to make an effort, and for you to meet half way with
him (walking on the water). Faith, is a big necessity, and important when
communicating with God. It is a trust, and acceptance of believing in the lord
through any outcome. Now when Peter walked on the water to go toward Jesus, he
was actually walking on the water, but then a violent wind came about, and then
he was afraid, he started to sink. That could be just like something getting in
our way, and we grow fearful, where you start to sink.
Matthew
8:23-26
“And
when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And behold, there
arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the
waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying
lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, why are ye fearful, o ye of
little faith? Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a
great calm.”
The
disciples were sorely afraid, and said that they would perish. And being
terribly afraid, they woke up Jesus, saying that they will perish, and for him
to save them. Jesus spoke of their lacking of faith, and calmed the seas. Now
when the disciples were fearful, and thinking of the worst, what was Jesus
doing? He was sleeping peacefully. When they were in their state of mind, in
doubt, Jesus when waking, looked at them simply astonished, and within a few
seconds rebuked the winds and the sea; and in seconds was silent.
Matthew
17:20
“And
Jesus said unto them, because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if
ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain,
remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be
impossible unto you.”
Mark
11:23
“
For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou
removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but
shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall
have whatsoever he saith.”
Matthew
17:14-21
“
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man,
kneeling down to him, saying, Lord have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and
sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire and oft in the water. And I
brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered
and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the
devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, why could not we cast him
out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto
you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall
be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and
fasting.”
The
Disciples had asked Jesus why they couldn’t just simply cast the demon out of
the child. And Jesus said that they didn’t have faith, just the faith of a
small mustard seed could have done the job. But they were in doubt, and that is
why they couldn’t cast the demon out of the child. Jesus said that this act couldn’t
be done but with prayer and fasting. It is important that we build our strength
up, when things of this nature come about. Not just in this area, but in all
things that are needed to be done in our works as God’s servants. We are to
pray, read our word, and fast as much as we can, so that we can do all things in
the lord. It is like putting gas in our car, we need to fuel it up for us to go
where we need to go, and do the things that we are intended to do. We have to
keep ourselves on F. Faith Is a strong factor, because anything you do with the
lord pertains to faith. You have to believe in what you are doing, without that
what are you left with.
