Luke 4:1-13
1
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and
was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,2 Being
forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when
they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3
And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command
this stone that it be made bread. 4
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto
him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the
devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them:
for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7If thou
therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And
Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9
And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of
the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down
from hence:
10
For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to
keep thee:
11
And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at
any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12
And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not
tempt the Lord thy God.
13
And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed
from him for a season.
We are tempted because we are drawn
away from our strength in the faith.
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn
away of his own lust, and enticed.
The Lord always prepares us for the worst.
John 16:33 These things
I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall
have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
If you notice in verse 6 in the book of Luke
in the 4th chapter that Satan has power in the world to give you
riches, and fame.
And Jesus answered Satan
with these words,8 And
Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
You cannot serve God and Wealth..
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the
one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Don’t labor for the future
in this world, but the life with Jesus Christ up in Heaven
Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth
and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure
is, there will your heart be also.
Jesus is the Bread of
life
John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat
which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you:
for him hath God the Father sealed.
