End Times Signs

1.                 People living without regard to whether God exist -
"And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."
2.                 Jesus said that the end will be like the day of Noah when God flooded the Earth because of the same sins that are in this world, and even worse today then back in those days.
Luke 17:26-27
"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all."
--Explosion of knowledge and travel ---
 Daniel - 12:4
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased."
**Why was the prophecy sealed and kept secret? It was to be sealed and preserved to give people in the end times the needed  hope that God will ultimately conquer all evil. Daniel did not understand the exact meaning of the times and events in his vision. We can see events as they unfold, for we are in the end times. The whole book will not be understood until the climax of earth's history. **
3. Wars and rumors of wars -
And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. 8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows."
4. Widespread acceptance of immoral behavior -
"And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making the man ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
The Godly will be delivered
7And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)"
5. Instability in world leadership -
" 1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us."
" 4-And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If any man have an ear, let him hear."
6. Widespread abandonment of the Christian faith -
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
7. Increased demonic activity -
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"
8. Significant shifts in political power and influence -
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations."
9. People mocking the Word of God -
" Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts."
10. Antichrist declares himself to be God -
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."
11. General disrespect for others -
"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;"

12. Spirit of selfishness and materialism -
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,"

There Is More To Being Saved Than Easy Believism

YOU CANNOT AFFORD to make a mistake about Salvation. Your soul is too valuable, the lake of fire is too final and eternity is too long to be wrong.
Satan's master plan is to make people believe they are saved when in reality they are still lost. His plan is sly, crafty and deceptive. His timing is just perfect. The name of his counterfeit is called EASY BELIEVISM. Approximately ninety five percent of all Protestant churches now accept it and most evangelical tract companies print it as being gospel truth. It has swept upon our land at a time when the cry of the masses is, "We like it easy and comfortable". A person can become a millionaire overnight by inventing a gadget that will make a hard job easy or an easy job easier. You can see this principle revealed in the success of perma-press clothes, micro-wave ovens, electric door openers, automatic dishwashers and electric knives. Everyone is crying, "Make it easy brother".
Satan designed his plan to include parts of the Bible which would add reverence and credibility to his counterfeit and at the same time twist the truths and change the words to produce a subtle half-truth which is more dangerous than an outright lie. Only the TRUTH, the WHOLE TRUTH, and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH will save a man or woman from sin.
Is a person saved by simply and only believing on the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior? Many churches now teach that a person is ready to meet the Lord in the second coming simply because they raised their hand and vocalized the phrase "I do now accept Christ as my personal Savior". This plan is simple, easy, soothing, mild, and effortless, but OH . . . So FALSE! Ministers will be judged by God on the grounds of criminal negligence who allow their church members to continue in their sinful habits and at the same time believe they are gloriously saved. Saved from W H A T???
There is more to being saved than EASY BELIEVISM -please notice Acts 16:31 very closely. And they said ". . . thou shalt be (future tense) saved. . ." The Apostle Paul used the future tense, shalt be, which places the act or event in the future. Notice, he did not say, "Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou art saved", like so many do today. It takes more to being saved than saying "I believe". James 2:14 teaches that faith alone can not save. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith and have not works? Can Faith Save Him?. James 2:20 declares, "Faith without works is dead." You do not have faith if you do not have works. Faith without works is dead. It can not save you if it is alone. Works are proof of faith. If works prove faith, then the absence of works prove unbelief. Yes, faith is necessary to be saved, but it takes more than just faith.
Was Simon the Sorcerer saved in Acts 8:13 by easy believism? we quote "then Simon himself believed also. . ." the answer to this question is "NO" Simon was not saved by only believing. We know this to be a fact from Apostle Peter's stinging rebuke in Acts 8:20-21. Listen to what he said, ". . . but Peter said unto him, thy money perish with thee, because thou has thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou has neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God". He believed but was still unsaved.
Even Simon Peter himself believed and made a confession of faith in Matt. 16:16 "And Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Was Peter saved according to the New Testament plan of salvation by his confession of faith? The Bible teaches he was not. In Luke 22:32 Jesus revealed Peter's spiritual condition by saying, ". . . when thou art converted (future tense) strengthen thy brethren." Mark 14:71 lets us know Peter was still in an unconverted condition of lying and cursing. Revelation 21:8teaches us that all liars shall have their part in the lake of fire.
What about the thief on the cross? In Luke 23:43 we read, "And Jesus said unto him. . . Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." How was the thief saved without obeying the New Birth Plan of Salvation? The answer is, the thief actually lived in the Old Testament dispensation and did not have access to the Baptism of the Holy Ghost as we know it today. This is made clear in John 7:39, "But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive; for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified." The Baptism of the Holy Ghost or the New Testament inheritance could not be given until the testator died. Hebrews 9:16-17. The thief was not saved according to the New Testament Plan of Salvation which is found in Acts 2:38.
What about Romans 10:9? "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart. . .thou SHALT be saved." Again please notice that the Apostle uses the future tense. shalt be, placing salvation in the future. The Apostle Paul realized that no man can truly confess Christ without the Holy Ghost. 1 Corinthians 12:3 teaches, "No man can say Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost." Besides all of this, he is not addressing sinners, but a church of saved individuals. We know this because he addressed them as brethren in 1 Corinthians 12:1.
Were the disciples saved under the New Testament Plan of Salvation in John 6:66-69 when they made their confession of faith? Let us read, "We believe and are sure, that thou art that Christ. . ." Easy Believism must answer "yes, they were saved here." Let us, however, notice what Jesus said to these same disciples in Matthew 18:1-3. At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus. . . and Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, Except ye (Disciples) be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." If the disciples could not be saved by Easy Believism, then neither can you or I.
Are the Devils saved? Easy Believism must answer in the affirmative. Why? Because James 2:19 teaches "The devils also believe. . ." Let us now examine the scripture to see if devils will be saved. Revelation 20:10 says, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire. . ." Also notice 2 Peter 2:4, "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment." NO! Devils are not saved by only believing.
Acts 10:1-6 records that Cornelius, the centurion, was a very religious and devout man; who feared God, gave much alms and prayed to God always. Was he saved by doing all of this? After doing all of this the angel spoke and told him to send for Peter in Acts 11:14"Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved." In Acts 26:27-29we read that King Agrippa believed. "I know that thou believest. . ." King Agrippa still remained unsaved however.
What is the New Testament Plan Of Salvation? Only Belief? Accept Christ? Join a Church? Pay dues every week? NO! Acts 2:38 is where the true plan is found. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Repentance, Baptism in Jesus Name, and the experience of the Holy Ghost were the keys to the kingdom spoken about in Matthew 16:19. They are the fulfillment of the birth of the WATER and of the SPIRIT in John 3:5, and the resurrection power of the church as recorded in Romans 8:11. As there was a death, burial and resurrection in the life of Jesus; so repentance is our death to sin, Baptism in Jesus name is our burial, and receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost is our resurrection (To walk in newness of life). The church at Jerusalem believed this plan in Acts 2:38. The Church at Samaria believed in Repentance, Baptism in Jesus Name, and receiving of the Holy Ghost in Acts 8:12,16,22. The church at Caesarea also affirmed this truth in Acts 10:44-48. The church at Ephesus obeyed Paul's preaching and were baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost, Acts 19:5-6. As you can see, believing in Jesus is necessary, but after they believed, these people in the book of Acts went on to REPENT; be BAPTIZED in JESUS NAME, and received the HOLY GHOST (Which comes with the evidence of SPEAKING IN TONGUES as the SPIRIT gives the utterance – Acts 2:4).
Many today will say that you cannot be saved by works, therefore you are not saved by being baptized in water or being baptized in the Holy Spirit as evidenced by speaking in tongues. I submit that they are SO WRONG. Baptism is something that is done to you. All that you have to do is to receive it. The same is true with receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit as evidenced by the speaking in tongues. It is a gift! It is done to you. All you must do is receive. Are you doing a work if someone gives you a gift? Absolutely not! If this is a work then the very act of accepting Jesus as your Savior or the repenting of your sins could also then be considered works.
I would also tell you that there are many good men, charismatic men, even Godly men preaching the gospel. Many are led by the spirit of God, but not filled with the spirit of God, rejecting the whole of God's truth because of self study, or theological or denominational beliefs. The most dangerous lie there is one that is wrapped in so much truth that you can't see the lie that will send you to hell. First, pray that God will reveal the truth to you regarding his plan for salvation. Then, study God's word for yourself. It's there in black and white. Not a mystery, yet there is none so blind as them that will not see.
You can disagree on many things in the bible, much of which we'll know by and by. But there can be no mistake in the plan of salvation. To be saved you must first believe, then repent (turn away from) of your sins, be baptized by submersion in water in the name of Jesus, be baptized in the Holy Spirit as evidenced by the speaking in other tongues.

LET'S MEET THE ANTICHRIST

Daniel 8:23-27
LET'S MEET THE ANTICHRIST
Intro: As we continue to move through the book of Revelation, we have encountered some terrifying scenes and some amazing characters. For the next few weeks our attention will be focused on an individual know as the Antichrist.
Some 40 billion people have lived on the earth since Adam was created in the Garden of Eden. Since that time, the world has witnessed the advent of many talented, intelligent and powerful people. But, there is one coming that will stand head and shoulders above the rest of humanity. He will be powerful, deceitful, intelligent, brutal, ruthless and efficient. He will represent the pinnacle of all that man can achieve apart from God. He will be a satanically empowered man and he will wreak havoc in this world.
So, before we move further in our study of Revelation, I want to this service and talk to you about the man known as "the son of perdition"; "the man of sin", 2 Thes. 2:3; "the beast", Rev. 13; "that Wicked'2 Thes. 2:8; "the Antichrist'1 John 2:18. Let's take our time today to examine this awful, awesome man who will dominate our world some day soon. Let's ask the Lord to give us a mind to understand and Let's Meet The Antichrist.

I. V. 23                  THE ADVENT OF THE ANTICHRIST
(III. In the end times, a fierce king will stand up. What are the signs of his appearing? Can men know when this man will appear? The answer to that question is both "Yes" and "No". No man knows exactly who the Antichrist is, or exactly when he will appear, but the Bible does tell us that there are certain sings that accompany his appearance. Let's examine these signs.)
A.   The Condition Of The World - When this man makes his entrance, the world will be in a terrible moral condition. This is evidenced by two passages that make reference to the end times, Luke 17:26-27; 2 Tim. 3:1-5. It is easy to see that our world is preparing for the appearance of the Antichrist.
B.   The Corruption Of Religion - 2 Thes. 2:3 tells us that the Antichrist will appear during a time of a religious apostasy, or "a falling away'. This refers to a time when organized, visible religion will depart from the doctrines of the Word of God. Since the New Testament was written for and about believers, it makes sense to conclude that this falling away will occur in churches and denominations that call themselves Christian.

(III. I hope everyone understands that just because a church or denomination calls itself Christian, does not make it Christian! In reality, the days in which we live are marked by a rapid departure from the foundational truths of Christianity. There was a time when, if a man said he was a Christian, you pretty much knew what he believed. There might have been a few doctrinal differences, but for the most part, this person believed in the virgin birth of Christ, the substitutionary death and resurrection of Christ, the return of Christ, and that the Bible is the Word of God. In other words, a Christian was a person who was in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accepted all that the Bible teaches concerning Him and His work. It's a different world now!
A person may deny the virgin birth and still claim to be a Christian! A person may call themselves a Christian and cast doubt on the accuracy of the Bible. A person may doubt that Jesus really died and rose from the dead and still claim they are saved. Something is wrong with this picture! We are living in the midst of a "great falling away!" Cults are growing by leaps and bounds while genuine Christianity consistently finds itself under the gun from society, government and organized religion.)

(III. When denominations have to take votes on whether to marry homosexuals, or to allow homosexuals to be ordained, something is wrong! There are things that are nailed down so firmly in the Word of God that there should never be a question about them. Yet, we are seeing every major doctrine under attack. We see churches and denominations turning away from the truth with alarming speed. We are in the midst of apostasy!)

(III. If the world is ready and religion is ready, what hinders the Antichrist from appearing at any moment and what keeps the Tribulation from starting? There is one event that must take place before the Antichrist can be revealed and before the Tribulation Period can commence.)

C. The Completion Of The Church - 2 Thes. 2:6-7 - These verses teach us the truth that the church must be removed before the Antichrist can be revealed.Verse 6 tells us that there is something that "withholdeth". Verse 7 says that there is One Who "letteth". The two words are translated from the same Greek word and both mean "to hinder''. The Bible tells us in verse 7 that the spirit of Antichrist is already at work. That is why we can see the evidence all around us.
Still, there are two forces that hinder him from stepping onto the stage and making his presence known. What are those two hindrances? The Church and the Holy Spirit! The work of the Spirit in convicting and judging the hearts of men is a tremendous retraining force in the world, John 16:8-11. The Spirit's work in filling the Church to stand against the tide of evil is also a great hindrance to the work of the spirit of Antichrist. One day, both of these forces will be removed! When? At the Rapture!

(III. It is worthy to note at this point that the whole purpose of the Tribulation is not for the church! It is called, "the time of Jacob's trouble", Jer. 30:7. It was told to Daniel that the Tribulation was a time for IsraelDan. 9:27. The Tribulation Period is also known as a "time of God's Wrath", Rev. 6:16-17; Rev. 16:1. The Bible clearly teaches that God's children have been saved from wrath through JesusRom. 5:9. One of the greatest proofs that the church will not se Tribulation is Christ's promise to the church at Philadelphia, Rev. 3:10, "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.")

(III. There are some who would tell us that the church will go through the first 3% years of the Tribulation. To believe this view, you have to believe that many of the Lord's prophecies to Israel also apply to the church. The fact of the matter is, if you interpret the Bible literally, you have to believe that the church leaves this world before the Tribulation Period.)

  I.  The Advent Of The Antichrist

II.   V. 23b            THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE ANTICHRIST
A. He Will Be A Man Of Popularity - Rev. 6:2 tells us that this man will be "given a crown". That is, the people of the world will embrace him as a godsend. No doubt this man will arrive on the scene with a workable formula for world peace. He will have a viable explanation for the disappearance of the Christians. He will embody all the world has ever looked for in a leader. It is said that the Antichrist will possess:
1.   The Leadership of a Washington or a Lincoln
2.   The Eloquence of a Franklin Roosevelt
3.   The Charm of a Theodore Roosevelt
4.   The Charisma of a John F. Kennedy
5.   The Popularity of a Dwight Eisenhower
6.   The Political Savvy of a Lyndon Johnson
7.   The Intellect of a Thomas Jefferson
The world stage is set for the appearance of such a man! He will be popular!

B. He Will Be A Man Of Peace - Rev. 6:2 tells us that when he appears, he will be like one riding a white horse. This gives him the appearance of good. It also states that he will have a bow, but no arrows. This indicates that he will no come making war, but will come making peace. This is proven by what Daniel saw in Dan. 9:27. It seems this man will make a 7 year peace treaty with the nation of Israel.

(Ill. Again, it can be clearly seen that our world is looking for such a leader. The world is tired of war! Economies are in need of help and people want to prosper and dwell in peace and safety. The world will readily embrace a man with a message of peace.)

(III. The world will never know peace apart from Jesus Christ! While this world is in turmoil today, the children of God know peace in their hearts, John 14:27. When Jesus returns to this earth, He will usher in a genuine peace that will last. If you are looking for peace, you will find it only in Jesus!)

C.  He Will Be A Man Of Prosperity - Dan. 11:43; Rev. 13:16-17. The Antichrist will eventually control the wealth of the world. He will bring prosperity to those who have lived in poverty. I am convinced that the Antichrist will bring an end to world hunger. That he will do away with much of the class distinction that exists in our world. That most people under his reign will be better off financially that they were before he rose to power.

(III. This is one area of this rule that will bring him lasting success. People like to prosper! Just look at America! Americans will vote for anyone who they think can offer them financial prosperity. A world leader who can promise and produce prosperity will be a very popular man!)

D.  He Will Be A Man Of Power - Rev. 13:7-8 These verses tell us that Antichrist will eventually rule the entire world. Conquerors down through the ages have sought this lofty goal without success. He will achieve it! What men won't recognize, or won't care about is the fact that he receives his power from Satan himself, Dan. 8:24. He will become so large in the eyes of humanity that they will literally worship him as their god.

(III. All of this will be true of him in the beginning of his reign. However, in the middle of the Tribulation, this man of peace and prosperity will show his true colors. This brings us to our third thought concerning this superman from Hell.)

  I.  The Advent Of The Antichrist
II.  The Attributes Of The Antichrist

III.  V. 24-25b    THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE ANTICHRIST
A. He Will Attack The People Of God - Dan. 7:25 The Antichrist will break his covenant with Israel and will attack the people of the Lord. He will try to do what Hitler, Stalin and others failed to do: exterminate the Jew. More than anything, this man will hate everything having to do with God and Jesus Christ. He will lash out at the Jews and try to completely destroy them.

(III. We are seeing this spirit at work in our world today! It is becoming increasingly unpopular to be a Bible believer. In fact, we are often labeled as being intolerant. We are told that we must tolerate homosexuality and lesbianism. We are told that we must protect the spotted owl while, at the same time, we tolerate the murder of millions of innocent unborn children. We are told that we are bigots when we speak out about the evils of society. We are told that we have no voice in the government. We are told to soften our stance. You keep an eye on things in the next few years. If the Lord doesn't return soon, it may become illegal to be a fundamental, Bible-believing Christian! The church is under attack, and this will continue until the Rapture. Then, the focus of Satan's anger will be the nation of Israel.)

B. He Will Attack The Prince Of God - Dan. 8:25 - Here, we are told that this Mon of Sin will stand up against the "Prince of Princes." This is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ! It appears that anything having to do with godliness, holiness or Christ will be the focus of the attacks of this madman. He will make every effort to stamp out the name of Jesus from the face of the earth!

(III. While he is doing this, the Lord will raise an army of young, Jewish men, 144,000 in all, who will go throughout the world preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, Rev. 14. The Antichrist will be powerless to stop them! Aren't you glad that even in the midst of Chaos, God is still on the throne?!)

(III. Again, this attitude is already being manifested in our day. When was the last time you heard someone use the name of Allah as a curse word? The Muslims would revolt! When did you hear someone in a fit of anger make use of the name of Buddha. When was the last time you heard the name of Krishnaused as a curse word? You haven't, and you won't! The name that is attacked with alarming frequency is the name of Jesus! I hear that blessed name used as a byword by a Christ rejecting world and it makes me sick to my stomach.
You might as well face it; the devil hates the name of Jesus! He will hate it and he will attempt to discredit it and destroy it until he is cast away in to Hell's flames. Why is it that Jesus, and His doctrines, are the most hated things in the world? If men admit the fact that He is Lord, that He died and rose again, that He is in fact the Savior; then man must admit that he is a sinner or be doomed to Hell. If the Bible is right about Jesus, then it stands to reason that it is right about everything else as well. The world hates His name because it points out their sins!)

C. He Will Attack The Place Of God - Dan. 8:25; Dan. 11:36-37; Dan. 9:27; 2 Thes. 2:4; Matt. 24:15 - All these verses tell us that the Antichrist will break his seven year covenant with the Jews. That he will attempt to wipe Israel from the map and that he will enter the newly constructed Temple in Jerusalem, walk into the Holy of Holies and set up his throne. He will declare himself to be God and he will demand worship from all the people, but especially the Jews. He will desecrate their Temple. The Jews

(III. The passage we read as our text today was directly fulfilled by a man named Antiochus Epiphanes.
a.   He was a Syrian.
b.   He came to the throne in 175 B.C. and ruled until 164 B.C.
c.   He was anti-Semitic to the core. He assaulted Jerusalem, murdering over 40,000 in three days, and selling an equal number into cruel slavery. It is thought that on September 6, 171 B.C., he began his evil actions toward the Temple.
d.   On December 15, 168 BC, his Temple desecration reached its ultimate low, for on that day this idolater sacrificed a giant sow on an idol altar he had made in the Jewish Temple. He then forced the priests to swallow its flesh, made a broth of it, and sprinkled the entire Temple. He finally carried off the golden candlesticks, table of shewbread, altar of incense, various other vessels, and destroyed the sacred books of the Law. A large image of Jupiter was placed in the Holy of Holies. All this was termed by the horrified Jews as "the abomination of desolation", and is referred to by Jesus in Matthew 24:15 as a springboard to describe the activities of the future antichrist.
e.   All through Palestine altars to Jupiter were set up and the Jews were forced to sacrifice on them. But at a little Jewish town called Modin (seventeen miles northwest of Jerusalem) there lived a Jewish priest named Mattathias, of the House of Hasmon. He had five sons and this brave old man not only refused to worship Antiochus' idols, but boldly slew the king's religious ambassador. The Jewish revolt was on. One of his sons was named Judas and he was called the Maccabee, which means "the hammer''.
For the next few years Judas successfully led an army of Jews against the Syrians. Their brave exploits are described in two Apocrypha books, first and second Maccabees. On December 25, 165 B.C., the Jewish patriots cleansed and rededicated the Temple Antiochus had defiled. This later became a Jewish holiday known as the Feast of Dedication (see John 10:22).
Note: In Dan. 8:14 there is a time period of 2300 days mentioned. This apparently began on September 6, 171 B.C. and ended on December 25, 165 B.C. It was, however, on the basis of this period that William Miller, founder of the modern Seventh Day Adventist movement, went astray. He made the days stand for years and arrived at the date of October 22, 1844, for the return of Christ!
f.    Antiochus died in Babylon in 164 B.C. after being defeated in battle.

(Note: What Antiochus did is part will be done in full by the Antichrist. He will declare to the world that he is God and that he must be worshiped. The sad thing is that the Bible tells us very clearly that the world will be lead to worship this devil from Hell, Rev. 13:8. The world will not bow to the Lord Jesus Who loves them and gave Himself for them, Rom. 5:8; Rev. 1:5. But, they will worship this satanically charged madman and will give him the praise that should be reserved exclusively for God!)

(III. Who are you worshiping today? Are you giving you worship to yourself; your things; your own life? Are you reserving your worship for the Antichrist? The fact is, your worship will be directed somewhere. If I were you, I would receive Jesus and worship the only true God through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

II.  The Attributes Of The Antichrist
III.  The Abominations Of The Antichrist

IV.  V. 25c         THE ANNIHILATION OF THE ANTICHRIST
A.   It Will Be Sudden - Dan 8:25 says that the Antichrist will be "broken without hand'. This means that the Antichrist will be defeated, but not by man! His kingdom will be over thrown, but it will be a supernatural defeat. This is made even clearer by Rev. 19:20. When God judges this man, He will do it swiftly and harshly. Defeat is certain for the Antichrist.
B.   It Will Be Serious - Notice that Rev. 19:20 says that Antichrist will enter the Lake of Fire alive! Then, 1,000 years later, Satan himself is judged and condemned to the Lake of Fire. When he is thrown in, the Bible tells us that the Beast is still there, Rev. 20:10. In spite of the man's abilities, in spite his power, in spite his greatness, in spite of the fact that he received the worship of men, he is still defeated. All the while he was ruling the world in great power; he was nothing more than a puppet in the hand of God. He was merely a pawn fulfilling a divine purpose. The Antichrist, like so many others found himself on the wrong side!

(III. Which side are you on today? Are you in line with the Word of God? Have you trusted Jesus as your personal Savior? If so, you will never see the Antichrist in this world. If so, then you will be in Heaven, in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ while the world writhes under tribulation. If not, then you need to be saved! You are on the wrong side! If the Lord doesn't come in your life time, you will die and go to Hell if you don't get right with God. If He does come and finds you lost, you will enter into the Tribulation and you will probably give your worship to the Antichrist, 2 Thes. 2:12. Where do you stand today?)

Conc: Jesus is coming and the world is poised to enter a time of trouble like nothing it has ever experienced before. What happens to you all depends on what you do with Jesus Christ. I invite you to come to Him today and be saved. If you are saved, I would ask you to look at you life to see if you are pointing men to Jesus or away from Him by the life you live. I do not fear the Antichrist! I will be gone before he makes his appearance. What about you? Where will you be when Satan's Superman takes the world by storm? When Daniel looked into these things, he fainted and became ill. What effect do these words have on your heart today? If the Lord is calling you to come to Him for any reason, you come now.
